The entire undergraduate admissions process, to include making all admissions decisions, is administered for both entering freshmen and transfer students by the Virginia Tech Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Thus, students interested in applying to study civil & environmental engineering at Virginia Tech should be sure to visit the VT Admissions webpage.
The Via Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering offers one undergraduate degree – the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. This degree covers the entire spectrum of the civil engineering profession, to include: Construction Engineering & Management, Environmental & Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Land Development, Structural Engineering & Materials, and Transportation Infrastructure & Systems Engineering. Prospective students are welcome to read about our current curriculum organization and view the current graduation checksheets.
It is important to note that Virginia Tech admits all entering engineering students into the general engineering program under the Department of Engineering Education to complete fundamental freshmen course work prior to moving on to their specific undergraduate engineering major such as civil engineering. This required freshmen coursework consists of courses such as English, Math, Chemistry, Physics, and two “Engineering Exploration” courses. The purpose of these “Engineering Exploration” courses is to build both knowledge and skills to provide students a strong appreciation for the entire spectrum of engineering majors and prepare them for success in these majors.
Students must request admission to the civil engineering department. Requests for admission are reviewed at the end of each academic semester. A schedule of these dates is available on the engineering education’s webpage about the process of major changes. All requests for admission to the CEE Department are processed through the engineering education major change process. You can read more about this process here: https://enge.vt.edu/undergraduate/Undergraduate_changing_major.html
For specific questions relating to Admissions requirements and processes, please visit the Admissions webpage and contact the Admissions Office if you need clarification on their information.
