The U.S. News & World Report survey has been published annually since 1983 and is based on a number of criteria, including peer assessment, retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rates, and alumni giving.
The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers educational programs in all areas of civil engineering practice. Our graduates are the principal designers, constructors, operators, and caretakers of many of the constructed facilities and systems that contribute to the high quality of life enjoyed throughout the world.
The mission of the department is to provide a high quality learning environment for students to gain fundamental and specialized engineering knowledge while developing skills in critical thinking, communication, learning, and leadership. The department creates opportunities for students and faculty to conduct research that contributes to society by advancing sustainable engineering principles and practices.
