Jesus de la Garza wins Outstanding Researcher of the Year

The Construction Industry Institute selected Dr. Jesus M. de la Garza, the Vecellio Professor of Construction Engineering and Management at Virginia Tech, as the twenty-third recipient of the Construction Industry Institute’s (CII) Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award. Dr. De la Garza was recognized for this honor at the 2016 CII Annual Conference in National Harbor, Maryland.

This award is given to individuals who conducted research that significantly contributed to the improvement of the construction industry. The researcher must also be recognized for their excellence by the CII membership and their report must be innovative, well written and timely.

Dr. de la Garza has been inducted into the National Academy of Construction and has also received CII’s Richard L. Tucker Award for Leadership and Service, Outstanding Instructor Award, and Distinguished Professor Award.

Mike Vorster, the David Burrows Professor Emeritus, in the department also won the award in 1995.
