Gabriel Isaacman-VanWertz recognized for his dissertation

Gabriel Isaacman-VanWertz, who will join the Virginia Tech Civil and Environmental Engineering faculty in December, was recently awarded the Sheldon K. Friedlander Award from the American Association for Aerosol Research. His thesis, which is recognized by this award, works on the complex problem of chemically characterizing and understanding atmospheric organics.

Isaacman-VanWertz earned his B.S. in Earth and Environmental Science and Chemistry from Wesleyan University. He continued on to earn his Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he designed and conducted laboratory studies of the fate of atmospheric compounds using a wide range of state-of-the-art instrumentation and methods.

The Sheldon K. Friedlander Award recognizes an outstanding dissertation by an individual who has earned a doctoral degree. The award memorializes Professor Sheldon Friedlander for his leadership as a researcher, teacher, and pioneer in aerosol science.
