Gabriel Isaacman-VanWertz will be joining the Civil and Environmental Engineering department as an assistant professor.
Isaacman-VanWertz earned his bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Science and Chemistry from Wesleyan University. He continued on to receive his Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of California, Berkeley.
His research focuses on atmospheric chemistry, aerosol, and instrumentation. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he designed and conducted laboratory studies of the fate of atmospheric compounds using a wide range of state-of-the-art instrumentation and methods.
In 2014, Isaacman-VanWertz was awarded the National Science Foundation Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowship. He has been the author or co-author of 20 peer-reviewed publications and has presented as an invited speaker at a number of professional conferences.
