Professor Daniel Gallagher and his team members on the STEC CAP executive management team, were selected to receive the Mission Integration of Research, Education, and Extension Award by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture. He is shown at the award ceremony on October 18, 2017 in Washington D.C. Professor Gallagher and his colleagues at 18 other institutions are collaborating on a $25 M USDA Grant that established farm, meat processing plant, and consumer- based approaches to prevent pathogenic E. coli contamination and outbreaks throughout the USA. Faculty at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln are leading the grant. Professor Gallagher and his students Samson Zhilyaev and Katherine Phetxumphou are focused on developing risk models to assess treatment technology and improve public health.
